One of the things people worry about when switching from Android to iOS or syncing its WhatsApp chat logs – it simply doesn’t work as well as moving to a new device on the same platform. There are some apps that claim to do it, but not all of them are hit or miss. However, WhatsApp may eventually work on letting you sync chats between platforms.
According to a post by WABetaInfo, the company has started working on the feature in the background. Post notes that are baked in functionality that will let you use your phone number – a single account on multiple devices, in the case of WhatsApp.
Current development states that you will be able to use a number on four devices for WhatsApp. So when this functionality is available, WhatsApp will also create an option to let you sync chat between devices. But for this you may have to use a Wi-Fi connection, because for the full amount of data you will need to upload and download all your chats, photos, videos and other shared content.
While WABetaInfo tested the syncing function on desktop clients, the post notes that it will also work on mobile devices. Once the transfer is complete, you will be able to enjoy continuity across all your linked devices.
Some other apps such as Facebook Messenger and Slack are already allowed. However, it is important to note that those accounts can be linked to your email ID as compared to phone numbers as WhatsApp’s ID approaches.
As this feature is early in development, there is no fixed date to display it on our device.
