The coronavirus pandemic has put all the good Samaritans in society to work. Celebs are coming forward with large donations and organizing fund-raisers to lift India out of its deepest crisis in years. On May 12, actor Sivakumar along with his sons, Suriya and Karthi donated Rs 1 crore to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Recently, state elections were held in Tamil Nadu. MK Stalin assumed office as the CM. He has appealed to people to contribute generously to combat the pandemic. As we know, state expenses have mounted mainly in terms of procurement of medical infrastructure.
Suriya and Karthi had also gone with their father. All of them were dressed simply in shirts and formal trousers. After his meeting with the Chief Minister, Sivakumar spoke to the media. He said, “The need of the hour is to protect the people from Covid-19 and we have contributed a small sum from our side. Everyone should come forward to do their own bit in combating the virus.”
As we know, MK Stalin is the son of one of Tamil Nadu’s greatest politicians, M Karunanidhi. His son, Udhayanidhi Stalin is also an actor. Sivakumar further said, “I have met his father (M Karunanidhi) for 30 – 40 years and to meet his political heir in office for the first time is a pleasure. I want the Tamil speaking/reading youth to get job opportunities within Tamil Nadu and that is the first thing that needs to be done.” On May 11, the CM had requested everyone to donate in whatever capacity to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF). He said the state needs money to increase its health infrastructure. Maximum money will be spent on procurement of oxygen, purchase of vaccines and medical expenses.
