Punjabi actresses Sargun Mehta and Sonam Bajwa on Thursday gives their support to farmers protesting in Punjab.
Taking to their social media handles, the two spoke about how everyone must give a voice to the farmers protesting against the recent Bills introduced by the government.
Reacting to the protests, Sargun wrote on Instagram along with a picture of farmers protesting: “Kisaan Virodhi Bill Da Asi Sarey Virod Karde Haan (we oppose the Bill that is against the farmers).”
On the other hand, Sonam Bjawa put out a short clip talking about why she oppposes the government’s Bills. Sonam wrote allongside her clip, “I stand by them and for them #kisaan.”
In the video, Sonam can be seen sitting with folded hand and explainging why she has decided to oppose the Bills. She says, “I am not making this video because my grandfather, my uncles and close relatives are farmers but because I have closely witnessed a farmer’s journey. Therefore, I urge you to we must all be the voice for the farmers and speak for their rights.”
Several farmers in Punjab have raised voice against the three agriculture ordinances introduced by the Central government. These are the Farmers` Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Sargun, who is best known for her work in Punjabi films, will be next seen opposite Ammy Virk in ‘Qismat 2’, while Sonam will be seen in Tamil film ‘Kaatteri’.
