In a high profile Raj Kundra’s Pornography case Mumbai Sessions court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of Sherlyn Chopra, who has been summoned by the Mumbai Police to record her statement as a witness in the porn videos racket case.
Sherlyn Chopra’s lawyer had told the court that the bail application was filed as Chopra feared that she will be arrested like others accused, and so had sought the court’s protection before going to the police. The lawyer added that the actress was not shying away from the investigation.
Advocate Siddhesh Borkar appearing for Sherlyn Chopra argued before Judge Sonali Agarwal and said, “This is the same case where accused Raj Kundra was also not given notice under 41 A and was straight away picked up. The police has done this with other accused as well. I myself have appeared as an advocate for accused number 7, Umesh, and he was also picked up by police without giving notice. It has been prevalent in their investigation.”
He further added, “Chopra had reasonable apprehension that if she went to police in good faith and then got arrested. So that is why she needs protection.”
Replying to Chopra’s protection plea, the police said that during investigation they found out through media that she had grievances against Raj Kundra, who was arrested in connection with the porn racket case. They also went through her statement in the Cyber Cell case. So, in order to get strong evidence against the arrested accused in the case, they wanted to get Sherlyn Chopra’s statement.
The Mumbai police had asked Chopra to appear as a witness before them to give their statement and had issued a summon on July 26 through WhatsApp.
However, instead of appearing for statement, Sherlyn Chopra had filed an anticipatory bail plea.
