Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri on Tuesday praised wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha for his match-winning against Delhi Capitals in Match 47 of the Indian Premier League 2020 in Dubai.
Saha, who opened the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad after Jonny Bairstow got dropped, smashed 87 off 45 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes to flatten the famed DC bowling attack.
Saha’s third-highest individual score in the IPL helped SRH post a mammoth 219 for 2 after being asked to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. SRH then bowled out DC for a paltry 131 in 19 overs with Rashid Khan grabbing 3 wickets for 7 runs from his 4 overs.
The win not only helped SRH stay alive in the race for the playoffs but also helped SRH settle in on their opening combination, at least for the next few games with Saha replacing the inconsistent Bairstow.
“To the best Glove Man in the world. Outstanding performance tonight,” Shastri tweeted after SRH’s 88-run victory, which is their 2nd highest by runs in the IPL.

This was only the second time Saha got to play a game for SRH this season. He had scored 30 runs and took a catch behind the stumps in a losing cause against Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 8 last month.
“I got the opportunity for the second time this year and I took chances in the powerplay for the team, and that’s it.
“Initially it was holding a bit and after that it went our way. It’s easy to play when there’s Warner at the other end. In the powerplay I just play my natural cricketing shots,” Saha said after the Player of the Match award for his swashbuckling knock.
The victory saw SRH grab 2 crucial points and move above Rajasthan Royals in 6th place on the IPL 2020 table after 12 games. They need to win their remaining 2 matches and then hope for some other results to go their way in order to stand a chance to qualify for the playoffs next month.
