In the eye of the storm for his recent comments in Thiruvananthapuram, comparing politics in ‘north and south’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was on Wednesday seen jumping into the sea with fishermen on the campaign trail ahead of the crucial Kerala assembly elections in April-May.
The Wayanad MP was with the fishermen folk in Kollam district to get a taste of their life, but much to everyone’s surprise, he jumped into the water when they cast their net. He then spent at least 10 minutes swimming in the sea before returning to the shore.

“He jumped without informing us… All of us were stunned but he was very cool. He spent around 10 minutes in the sea water. He is an expert swimmer,” a Congress functionary told news agency PTI.
Gandhi was wearing a blue t-shirt and khaki trousers, but did not change them before jumping into the sea. However, he changed his clothes after returning to the Thangassery beach.
There were 23 fishermen in the boat with Gandhi.
The Congress leader was also accompanied by four party leaders, including AICC general secretary KC Venugopal and senior member TN Prathapan.
