It seems that for adolescents their body mass index or BMI can actually determine the risk of asthma in them. Studies have revealed that boy who are under weight and girls who are overweight have a higher risk of asthma. Boys and girls who are admitted to hospitals with this lung disease have led to this conclusion.
Well asthma is a condition where the airway of the person gets inflamed, narrow, swell and produce extra mucus. It is a lung condition where the person finds it difficult to breathe and feels choked. Some of the common symptoms of asthma are- dry cough, difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath, chest pain, night cough, and wheezing.

What does the study say?
Studies have shown that from among the children who are admitted to the hospitals due to asthma it is seen that mostly the boys are under-weight and the girls are over-weight. At the age of 13 the BMI measurements of the children actually determine their asthma condition.
More than normal or under-weight girls at the age of 13, asthma seem s to be more prevalent in the girls who are over-weight. And adversely in boys, the ones who are under-weight seem to have more risk of asthma rather than the boy who are normal weight or over-weight. It has been noted that boys who are under-weight have an increased risk of asthma up to 24%.

Now this is another significant difference that the study show between male and female bodies and the way they function. The reason behind this particular difference may due to many different factors including lung mechanism, physical activities, and other environmental factors hat effect human body.
But this study can surely be beneficial for a lot of healing and controlling factors relating to asthma. Knowing the risks which can lead to asthma, one may surely change and modify lifestyle accordingly.
