Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard was pleased with his batting effort which helped the team beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs in Match 9 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Chennai on Saturday.
Pollard’s important cameo helped Mumbai reach a challenging 150 for 5 at the MA Chidambaram stadium which they managed to defend successfully by bowling out Hyderabad for 137.
It was the second time in a row that MI managed to defend a par score at Chepauk after their 10-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the last game in which they posted 152 and then stopped the opposition at 142 for 7 in 20 overs.
Pollard, who was promoted up the batting order to No. 5, remained unbeaten on 35 off 22 balls with 3 sixes and a four which proved to be the difference between the two sides as MI’s middle-order bailed them out of trouble whereas SRH’s batsmen flopped even after Jonny Bairstow (43) and David Warner (36) added 67 for the first wicket.
Pollard acknowledged the importance of adding some crucial runs at the end of MI’s innings which lifted their spirits and gave the MI bowlers something to defend on a pitch which wasn’t easy for batting.
“I think the situation dictates who comes first, we are all padded up and whenever we’re called on, we’re ready. There’s no secret. We have to find a way and again in the back end getting those extra runs helped us.
“It’s very difficult to adjust on this pitch when you only have a couple of balls, but that’s what we train for. It’s good when you scrap the victories, it gives you confidence,” Pollard said after picking up his Player of the Match award.
