The makers of ‘Khaali Peeli’ have been constantly trolled over their song, which had ‘Goriya’ and ‘Beyonce’ reference. The song, which was called racist, has undergone yet another change after ‘Beyonse’. The song, which released on September 7, 2020, is now called ‘Duniya Sharma Jayegi’. The change came at a time when the makers released their new song ‘Tehas Nehas’, featuring Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey in a garage romance.
The ‘Khaali Peeli’ track came under the scanner after a contradicting, and racist hookline – ‘Ho tujhe dekh ke goriya, Beyonce sharma jayegi’. The word ‘goriya’, as considered by many, was a jibe at ‘dark-skinned’ American pop superstar Beyonce, who is of African American origin. The song did not go down especially during movements like ‘Black Lives Matter’.
‘Khaali Peeli’ director Maqbool Khan had said, “The comparison with Beyonce is simply meant to be a street-smart guy flattering a girl who is trying to impress that her dancing and performance is worth comparing to Beyonce, who we all see as the final word, the epitome of talent, beauty, performance, style and attitude. We are all huge fans, and there was never any question of disrespect.”
Ananya Pandey’s look in the song was appreciated by Kareena Kapoor Khan. The actress had commented, “You look so hot !!!well done…,” after Ananya shared the song on her Instagram post.
‘Khaali Peeli’ is produced by Himanshu Kishan Mehra, Ali Abbas Zafar and Zee Studios. It’s going to be the first ever Bollywood film to have a simultaneous multi-format release.
