In a surprising development, ‘kidnapped’ Dubai Princess Latifa al Maktoum was seen in mall with her friends in her first public appearance in the last three years.
The release of the photo was sanctioned by Dubai authorities after campaigners backed by the UN demanded ‘proof of life’ after a video recently surfaced in which Princess Latifa can be seen saying that she is a hostage and the villa she has been kept has been converted into a jail.
According to campaigners, the decision by Dubai authorities to release the photo is ‘highly significant’ and campaigners expressed hope that Princess Latifa would soon be allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates.
The 34-year-old Princess Latifa was photographed with two friends at the Emirates Mall in Dubai few days ago. Princess Latifa’s photo was posted on an Instagram account of one of her companions.
Supporters of the Free Latifa campaign said the two women who are seen in the photo with Princess Latifa were her old friends.
One of the women with Princess Latifa was identified as Lynda Bouchikhi and she had uploaded the image on her instagram account few days ago.
She posted the message ‘Lovely evening at MoE with friends.’
The other woman in the photograph is Dubai-based maths teacher Sioned Taylor. She also took to her Instagram account to post the photo.
It is the first time that Princess Latifa has been seen in public since December 2018.
