Rajasthan Royals skipper Steve Smith on Tuesday revealed that batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal would be making his Indian Premier League debut against Chennai Super Kings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
India’s U-19 World Cup star Jaiswal, who was in superb form with the bat during the U-23 CK Nayudu Trophy, was rewarded for his consistency and talent by the Royals with a place in the playing XI. He was listed as one of the two openers along with Smith.
Jaiswal was on the field during the toss just before the game when he met MS Dhoni and greeted the Chennai skipper with folded hands, showing his mark of respect for the former India captain.
Jaiswal was in a phenomenal form at the U19 World Cup in South Africa where India lost the final to Bangladesh. In the 6 World Cup innings, Jaiswal had 5 fifty-plus scores–including a hundred. The only time he didn’t get a half-century was against Japan when India were chasing only 42.
rose to fame when he became the youngest List A double centurion in the world after hitting 203 for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
His run-scoring spree also helped him bag a hefty deal in the 2020 IPL Auction where the Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 2.4 crore for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League that starts from March 29.
Earlier this year the 18-year-old had told India Today that he was looking forward to making his IPL debut with RR.
“For me, it is very good opportunity to play in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals because I can go and talk with the World’s best players like Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler. I am really excited to learn from them. It will be exciting for me as it is my first IPL and I will try my best to do whatever I can,” Jaiswal said.
