While Dhoot left the office of the Enforcement Directorate around 11.30 at night, Deepak Kochhar was questioned late at night for the investments received by NuPower Renewables Pvt Ltd from several domestic and foreign companies. ED also recorded the statements of some of Kochhar’s relatives and her husband.
The couple was summoned a day after ED searched the facilities of Chanda Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot. The raids were carried out in at least five offices and residential premises in Mumbai and in some other places, PTI reported, citing officials.
The high-profile case involving the former CEO and chief executive of ICICI Bank took a greater focus after it led to Kochar’s unceremonious departure from the bank amid accusations of impropriety by granting a loan to a company related to the her husband’s business.
Last month, CBI registered an FIR against Chanda Kochhar, Deepak and Dhoot. It is important to note that the IWC has appointed Supreme Energy, a company founded by Dhoot, and Nupower Renewables, a company controlled by Deepak Kochhar, in the FIR.
