Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi is one of the films everyone is looking forward to. The filmmaker had plans to wrap up the Alia Bhatt film by summer but the pandemic ruined everything. A huge set was made in Film City, which had to be pulled down before the rains. It was demolished in April 2020 as the makers felt that recreating a new set would be cheaper than paying the rent during the lockdown. Only few parts are still standing, and they have got a monsoon cover. As per a report in MiD-Day, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had a meeting with Alia Bhatt. They are keen to resume work in early October. It is a period film and needs a lot of people on the sets. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is aware of the challenges with all the government-imposed restrictions.
A source tells MiD-Day, “In the first post-pandemic schedule, they will film solo scenes of Alia Bhatt, and other sequences that require fewer people. Some cheat shots will have to be employed, which will be corrected later at the VFX stage. Being a perfectionist who doesn’t want to compromise on the scale of the product, the filmmaker has decided to shoot the more elaborate scenes later. The set is currently being fixed and sanitised for an October shoot. However, Bhansali has yet to determine the final dates.” The filmmaker did not give a comment on the tabloid on this.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on S Hussain Zaidi’s novel about the famous brothel owner of the 1960’s. A couple of posters were unveiled by the makers.
