Study has revealed that good amount of physical activity and exercise can actually reduce the risk of anxiety and depression upon people suffering from lung diseases.
There are different types of lung diseases and one of it is chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) which blocks the air passage and makes the act of breathing difficult. For patients suffering from this problem it is common to suffer from anxiety and depression.

The lung condition
Among people that have the COPD it is commonly seen that the prevalence of anxiety and depression is almost 40% which is almost 10% less than that of the general population. If the patients with COPD involve themselves in physically activities then the risk of developing anxiety is 11% and depression is 15%. Studies show that people who are regularly involved in exercises have a lesser chance of developing depression and anxiety.
The patients of COPD are prone to metal disorders and it has been proven time and again that involving in exercise and other physical activities can decrease mental burdens. Similarly it has been noted that patients who are not involved in physical activities or are less involved, they have a higher risk of mental disorders, cancer, musculo skeletal problems, hormonal problems, neurological issues, cardiovascular problems and other infectious diseases.

In a particular study 409 patients from Netherlands and Switzerland were observed and researched up and it was seen that the physical activities actually make a difference. In the study physical activity of the patients was assessed with Amsterdam Physical Activity Questionnaire and Longitudinal Ageing. Observation was done for a period of five year. And finally the reports of the study was presented that the European Respiratory Society International Congress in London, 2016.
So it is suggested that people with COPD get themselves involved in exercises and other physical activities, it will help in keeping calm and away from depression and anxiety.
