Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen and Chandrachur Singh starrer web series Aarya was a huge hit amongst the masses last year. It majorly focused on Sushmita Sen’s character and how she protected her family after her husband is mysteriously killed. Chandrachur Singh had kept away from the silver screen for a really long time. And seeing him Aarya was a big and pleasant surprise for many. Recently, In an interview with the Times of India, the Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya actor spilt the beans on how he landed Aarya, working with Sushmita Sen, OTT boom and more. He also said that after Aarya, he has been getting a lot of good offers.
When asked as to did he mind Sushmita Sen taking the centre stage in the series, Chandrachur Singh said, “Actors should be happy and comfortable in the characters that they are playing. I sure did. ‘Aarya’ was basically a women-centric series. I was pretty comfortable in my skin. We worked as a team and got the best out of each other.” Interestingly, the Josh actor did not know that Sushmita Sen is playing the role of Aarya in the film. It was towards the end that he learned about that development. Narrating an interesting story, Chandrachur Singh said, “I was supposed to work with Sushmita years ago, but the project did not work out. When this show came my way, I had no idea that Sushmita was on board for the series because that confirmation had come to me from the team only later. Meanwhile, one day, when I was travelling to Mumbai, two air hostesses on the flight wanted to take a picture with me but the airline policy did not allow it. They asked if I could give them an autograph. I asked them their names for it and one of them was called Sushmita Sen. I have never known any other ‘Sushmita Sen’, so, I was quite amused (laughs). Then, from the airport, I went to the workshop where I met Ram and he told me he was taking me to meet Sushmita. I got goosebumps. Then that evening, I told them the story of how I met someone by the same name before coming here. That was really interesting!”
He was busy being a doting father to his son while he was away from the silver screen. Being a single father, he wanted to focus solely on raising his son. He opened up on the OTT boom saying that there is more interesting stuff for an actor on the OTT platform. He said, “There was spontaneity in ‘Aarya’ in terms of shooting it, but the main thing is that when you look at the digital space, there is an adaptability quotient going on. I began my career with single-screen theatres and the transformation happened with multiplexes. Then in television, there was a big boom over the last two decades. People could smell a good film from far. The advent of OTT has made them available to everyone at home. Now, unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has shut theatres down. Everyone has got into the habit of watching digital content; it is a natural transformation. All in all, the content has to be good. There is more interesting stuff for an actor to do now.”
