The new song of Ananya Panday and Ishaan Khatter starrer film Khaali Peeli has been released. The song is Beyonce Sharma Jayegi ,And since then, Beyonce has been trending on Twitter. Why? Well, Queen Bey’s fans are bashing the creators of the song for its racist implications.
The song that has been composed by Vishal and Shekhar has garnered a lot of flak because of its lyrics. The line which has garnered criticism goes, “Tujhe dekh ke goriya, Beyonce sharma jayegi.”
Netizens have pointed out that the use of the word ‘goriya’ in the song stems from Bollywood’s history of colourism and favouring the idea that ‘fair is beautiful’. People also said that since the song has African-American singer Beyonce’s name in it, it also perpetuates racist ideas.
Twitter bashed Bollywood’s double standards for releasing a song that supports colourism.
