Indian Premier League 2020 was postponed indefinitely after Coronavirus pandemic in March. But now IPL is all set to re-start in the month of September with the event happening in the UAE. After the news broke in the media, cricket fans just couldn’t contain their happiness on social media. As players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul and many more gearing up to hit the field after a long wait, the recent news that we came to know is that Ramdev Baba’s Ayurvedic company, Patanjali is now bidding for the position of the title sponsors for Indian Premier League after Chinese mobile brand, VIVO made an exit from the sponsor’s list.
VIVO was the title sponsor for this cricket tournament and had invested Rs 2,199 crore in 2018 for a five-year deal. However, after the border tension between India and China that took place in Ladakh in June 2020 and which made the Government Of India impose a ban on more than 59 Chinese apps, the mobile brand pulled out its name from the sponsor’s list. Having said that, the title sponsorship is now vacant and according to a report in HT, Patanjali is considering this position as this will also give global recognition to the company.
Confirming the development, Patanjali spokesperson S K Tijarawala told PTI: “We are considering this. This is for Vocal For Local and making one Indian brand as global, this is the right platform. We are considering that perspective.” However, Tijarawala also added that the company is yet to take a final call on the issue as he was quoted saying, “We have to take a final decision, whether we would take it or not.”
