Amazon India’s Country head for Prime Video, Nitesh Kripalani, has reconciled from the organization stating personal reasons, the organization said in an argument.
Amazon told Medianama that it is currently looking to fill this position, and in the interim, Vijay Subramanian, Director, Content for Prime Video India has walked in to serve as his substitute until a suitable substitute can be found.
Kripalani signed up with Amazon Video India as Country Head in Dec 2014. Under his management, Amazon India launched its streaming service Prime Video in Dec 2016 and since then it has spent intensely in tie-ups with content makers and top production houses in India such as Yash Raj Films and Excel Entertainment among others. As a result, the SVOD OTT player has experienced a significant growth in subscriber numbers. The global loading support released its first local original series ‘Inside Edge’ and also finalized a unique deal with Bollywood star Salman Khan giving them the worldwide streaming rights to all his future headings, starting with Tubelight.
Kripalani came to Amazon from Sony Pictures Networks India where he was heading its digital business, which included the release of OTT solutions SonyLIV and LIVSports.
In the temporary period, until a substitute is hired, Kripalani’s role will be filled by Prime Video India director of content, Vijay Subramanian. Kriplani is also an investor in Mumbai-based Timesaverz Dotcom Pvt. Ltd, which runs an online marketplace for home solutions. Amazon Prime Video features many renowned tie-ups in the nation since it’s globally released on 14 Dec 2016, including India.
