Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxmii has been released on OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar on November 9. Film have been bashed by many people calling it a cheap copy of the original Muni 2: Kanchana directed and starring Raghava Lawrence who has helmed Laxmii. The critics bashed the screenplay and a lot of other elements from the film. However, Akshay Kumar says that he is more concerned about the reaction of the audience. Reportedly, Laxmii is the biggest opener on the OTT platform beating Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi’s Dil Bechara.
When asked about the same, Khiladi Kumar said, “I feel great. I know a lot of critics don’t like my films, and I understand it. But my focus is on my audience. I am told it’s the biggest opening of my career. The film achieves something pivotal. Having a transgender protagonist normalises and reinforces the rights of the LGBTQ community. Be it with PadMan or Toilet: Ek Prem Katha or Mission Mangal , the idea is to do more than just entertain or deliver a box-office success. I want to make a difference,”
A special screening of Laxmii was held in Delhi by transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi. Laxmi also heaped praise for the Akshay Kumar starrer. Talking about the support and love that he received, Akshay said, “Her words of appreciation mattered to me. She lauded me for playing the character. There were 100 transgender women. They all stood up and clapped at the end of the film. The ostracisation of the community has been horrific, and it’s time we collectively stood up and promoted equality.”
