Padmanabhaswamy Temple is known to be the richest temple in the world. From sacks full of gold, diamond, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and other precious stones to idols made of pure gold; from gold chains to gold sheaf, golden veil, golden coins (lakhs of them from the Roman Empire), crowns, necklaces and objects made out of other precious metals and stones are kept in this temple.

The temple has gold offering worth $67 million; annual donations worth US$1.6 million. Many people donate a lot to this temple and recently a man had donated gold coated dome over Lord Ganesha which weighs over 3.7 kilos.
